I had to meet my mom for a quick lunch and we decided to meet at Nick’s on 2nd, which was the former site of one of her favorite restaurants called Bono’s that closed a while back. She wanted to give the new spot a chance, so off we went!
I love vintage, so I think the sign is super cute! It is somewhat Art Deco in style, which you can kind of see through the trees. Otherwise, I would have needed to stand in the street to get a better shot!
The inside is pretty and modern and the bar is much nicer than this picture. My mom preferred the old set-up though, which I actually agree with…
For the lunch menu, there are quite a few different options. At first, I thought I might have a sandwich, but so many of the main courses sounded great!
My mom ordered a Spinach & Artichoke Dip to start. I usually pass on dip, but it took a somewhat long time to receive our entrees. I was pleasantly surprised because it was not overly creamy like some Spinach & Artichoke Dips I have eaten in the past.
My mom ordered a Roasted Prime Rib, which was pretty good. However, the plate looked a bit boring, perhaps because she preferred her Loaded Baked Potato with only butter. Still, zhuzh up the plate a little, right? 🙂
I ordered the San Francisco Cioppino! There was so much fresh seafood, and the broth was perfectly seasoned. Not to mention that the bread was toasted just right and a perfect accompaniment. 🙂
Here is a close-up of the deliciousness. 🙂
And last but not least, we split the Warm Butter Cake! It is enormous and so, so delicious! It is almost like a buttery madeline, a muffin, and a soufflé had a baby! Imagine a cake using madeline batter, with a crackly muffin top, and slightly mushy in the center like a soufflé. It was really, really delicious and I have never had anything like it.
And it is all topped off with a scoop of ice cream. You know, because it isn’t delicious enough on its own. Ha! 😉
Anyways, now I’m on the hunt to find a recipe for butter cake because that was seriously one of the best desserts I have had in a while. We apparently started a trend in the restaurant because when our dessert came out, we overheard a couple of tables ordering “what that table had.” Yep!
