Another old favorite that I am excited to share with you! My guy was busy and my mom was out of town, so my dad and I had a father-daughter dinner just like old times. We scrolled through the list of our favorites and we ended up settling on Katella Deli!
It’s an old school restaurant that has been around for 50 years! I love that it’s family owned. 🙂
And remember how I mentioned that it is old school? Check out the front area, which is pretty much how I remember it from when I was a kid. I will forever associate glass blocks with this restaurant. 🙂
In the waiting area there are a few example cakes on display, like this minion from Despicable Me, Olaf, and beer (which someone probably tried picking up). There are probably about 50 cakes to peruse while you wait for a table. Fun!
In fact, the entrance to the bakery is very tempting because it has tons of delicious, beautiful items which you can see here…
Here’s a sneak peek. 🙂
Now, here is a glimpse of the huge menu, which has barely changed through the years except a few little redesigns. Check out the entire thing here!
Chicken soups are served with your choice of noodles, rice or kasha. Soups are served with your choice of freshly baked bread, hot corn bread with honey butter or muffin.
Normally, I have the chicken soup with a matzo ball, but I definitely wanted to save room for a sandwich. 🙂 I chose one of their delectable, moist bran muffins. Delicious!
Tuna salad with your choice of cheese on grilled rye bread. Melts are served with French fries and coleslaw.
Classic!
Hot corned beef, melted Swiss cheese and sauerkraut on grilled rye. Served with potato salad.
I switched out the rye bread for whole wheat and the potato salad for fruit. Oh and also they serve homemade pickles which are basically half of a cucumber. When I was younger, I thought that all pickles were this big!
Here is a close-up of the deliciousness. 🙂 They actually used to make their sandwiches bigger, but this is more than large enough!
Since I saved half of my sandwich for the next day’s lunch, I had a bit of room to share a mini key lime pie with my dad. Delicious!
It’s nice to see a favorite restaurant that has not changed at all since I was a kid! And remember to check out the bakery. You will not be sorry!
