Just after Best Fish Taco in Ensenada, we needed dessert! Since it was pretty nearby, we went to House of Pies! I was craving good pie because on Thanksgiving, we had a guest bring a so-so pie… and it was so disappointing. What better place to eat pie than in a house full of them! I Instagram-ed a picture of my delicious desserts and Kate from Small & Great immediately replied “That’s my kind of house.” Word.
By the way, the picture below is blurry because it was sooo cold, I had to run inside from the wind. Yes, I’m a wussy Californian. 🙂
I almost wanted to dive into this chocolate cake, but I was here for pie!
So, my friend and I decided to share a couple of slices. We were undecided for a while, but I REALLY wanted a blueberry pie. And I soooo picked right! Perfectly luscious, plump, sweetened blueberries with a flaky crust. Yum!
Oh, and check out how retro the menus are. Cute, right?
And the other pie we tried, out of sheer curiosity, was the pineapple! It was completely different, and although my friend wasn’t a fan, I thought it was decent. Also, we knew the scoop of ice cream was enormous, so we only ordered one pie “a la mode” and divided the scoop. Smart, eh? 🙂
Last time I was here, I had a delicious apple pie and my guy had a so-so Bavarian chocolate, so it seems that my favorites are definitely fruit based. I have a weakness for blueberry, so I think it is my current top choice. Maybe next time, I can see if another slice can take down the current champion. 🙂 Challenge accepted!
