Honduras Kitchen (Long Beach, CA) #2

Since our first trip to Honduras Kitchen, I was eager to bring my parents, who I knew would just love it.  We had the chance to have a lunch with them on Saturday, and I gave them a few options that we should try… luckily they chose Honduras Kitchen, which I was secretly hoping for!

You might remember that our favorite dish was the fried chicken.  I didn’t need this sign to remind me at all!

Once again, we started with the wonderful chips and Honduran salsa.

Just wonderful!  Exactly what I was expecting, but also somehow better!

Baleadas

Fresh hand made flour tortilla with refried beans, Honduran cream (mantequilla) and grated dry cheese

We tried these again, which were just as delicious as the first time!  My mom liked it so much that she spent some time trying to figure out how she could recreate these at home.

Yuca

Fried cassava

This was something I knew my dad would enjoy because he grew up eating something fried yuca.  Think of it as a fried potato wedge topped with crispy pork.  I enjoyed this minus the pork, and was pleasantly surprised!

The other item that I knew my dad would love was a fresh Guanabana juice.  Double check!

Entreés

Carne Asada

Grilled steak cut Honduras style, marinated.  Served with rice, beans, chimol salad and fried plantains.

This was marinated in a delicious sauce, which was just slightly sweet.  Lovely!

Pollo Mesapa

A delicious chicken leg quarter served Mercado style in a red basket, a bed of fried green bananas, green and red cabbage, chimol, topped with your favorite Honduras sauce.

These are my favorite kind of plantains.  Yum!  Also, this was nearly as good as the pollo frito, which I could hardly believe!  Speaking of…

Pollo Frito

A Fried chicken leg quarter served with rice, beans, salad, chimol, and choice of fried plantains, banana, or ripe plantain and to finalize with Honduras sauce on top.

I had to borrow this picture from our last trip, because it was just attacked right away!  I have a feeling this dish will be ordered every time we visit.  🙂

Have you had a chance yet to visit a Honduran restaurant?
