Immediately following the Unique L.A. show, my friend and I were HUNGRY! It was so cold out, at least by California standards, so we decided to eat somewhere fairly nearby. Normally, we have a hard time being decisive together, so it can take a while for us to decide. I actually had an online deal to use, and it was one of my friend’s faves anyways, so it was set. We were headed to Best Fish Taco in Ensenada!
Basically, if a taco stand and a dive bar had a baby, this would be it!
Everything costs less than $3, so it was super cheap! I ordered one of everything. 🙂 From right to left, I had a Shrimp Taco, Fish Taco, Potato Taco, and Camarones Abrigados. The camarones abrigados are almost like shrimp taquitos. 🙂
As for the tacos, only the potato taco comes dressed. I actually like it this way because you can see exactly how much batter the shrimp and fish is coated in. I’ll give you a hint, just the perfect amount! So what do you put on the tacos?
Salsa of course! Here are a few of the salsas that I had to choose from. I always like spicy, so with four different spicy salsas, I was in heaven!
There we go! Nice and colorful salsas. 🙂
To drink, my friend had a horchata, which is a creamy rice beverage with cinnamon. Yum! I had an Agua de Jamaica, which is an agua fresca with hibiscus juice. You might not be able to tell, but it is a deep red color. Sometimes agua frescas can be extremely sweet, but this was perfect!
After the tacos and everything, we sat there chatting for a bit. The owner came by and asked if we liked scallops and left us with these yummy nuggets! If a scallop and popcorn chicken had a baby, this would be it. I know I just used the “if they had a baby” line, but this is the best way to describe it!
For me, the “must-try”s are definitely the fish and shrimp taco and the Agua de Jamaica. In all honesty, I like the shrimp taco better but they’re both great! Sometimes battered fish tacos can be too mushy or too greasy, but these are just right! Also, they are pretty filling, although they are small, so we did not have seconds to make room for pie at House of Pies later on!
Also, I definitely recommend trying all of the salsas. I like the pineapple and mango versions because they have the perfect amount of sweet and heat, while my friend likes the radish salsa. There isn’t a bad one in the bunch!
