Once again, I had a mother-daughter date and this time we had lots to talk about with my sister’s engagement. Last week, we went to the same neighborhood at Crème de la Crêpe and this week, we happened to stumble upon Taste of Downtown Long Beach, which was really tempting, but we stuck to our original plan of going to Utopia Good Food & Fine Art!
I have always been curious about the inside of the restaurant from the outside. It is definitely colorful!
Here is a peek at the menu…
jumbo shrimp sautéed in garlic and olive oil with white wine and capers
My mom ordered this and I had a taste. Delicious!
Grilled Japanese eggplant, feta cheese with mint olive oil, garlic sauce
My appetizer was much too salty for me, but I have been accused of having a very sensitive palate.
By the way, are you wondering what the “fine art” in name of restaurant is? Check out this painting peering at me from the bathroom. It was like someone was watching me eat my dinner…
Grilled lamb chops with garlic mint sauce, served with rice
My mom found the mint to be overwhelming and the lamb was a bit tough for her liking.
Jumbo shrimp, capers, sun-dried tomato and garlic cream sauce with mashed potato
My shrimp was pretty good! I was very happy with the sun-dried tomato and garlic cream sauce and the mashed potatoes were delicious.
This was very disappointing and just tasted like regular white bread with a slice of apple in between, so we mainly ate the ice cream.
Also, I have yet to comment about prices, but this was an extremely expensive dinner for just the two of us. It was good to visit once and support a local business, but we will move on to another restaurant next time.
