This is an exciting post for me to share with you this week because I finally got to check off one of those “Probably Never Going to Happen” places off of my “To Eat” list. Which place would that be? It’s Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams!
Now, why did I think that I would never try this ice cream? For one thing, it’s all the way in Ohio. Apparently, I have family there and my parents met there… but I didn’t see myself going any time soon.
Then, how did I get to try the flavors without a plan ride? They trucked in a special batch for us Southern Californians to get ready for their new shop!!!
Yes, there’s a three day pop-up of free ice cream from Jeni’s, today of which was Day 1. Follow them on Twitter to find the locations for Days 2 & 3.
You probably saw on Instagram when I sampled every single flavor on the truck. I had a friend though, so it’s not like I was a total pig. 🙂
Now, to the flavors!
& Askinosie Dark Milk Chocolate
The Brambleberry Crisp was my absolute favorite flavor of the bunch! Not to take anything away from the other flavors, but I’m definitely a berry & crunch kind of girl. 🙂 Surprisingly, I loved the chocolate as well! Sometimes, I feel like chocolate ice cream tastes a bit like cardboard, so I always stay away. Am I the only one?
& Whiskey & Pecans
Having these two in the same bowl was such a contrast! Yes they both had alcohol, but while the sorbet was light and refreshing, the Whiskey & Pecans was creamy and decadent. Although I used to stay away from nuts in my ice cream, I’m becoming a fan more and more, especially with concoctions like this one!
& The Buckeye State
The vanilla was so, so good. It’s a staple of Jeni’s with the following description: “Ndali Estate’s extraordinary vanilla beans with honey, cream, and grass-grazed milk.” Vanilla, honey, cream, and milk sound like basic ingredients, but it makes a heavenly little scoop! The Buckeye State was made with salted peanut butter and dark chocolate chips… So yes, this was a favorite as well. 🙂
& Intelligentsia Black Cat Espresso
Another signature of Jeni’s, the Salty Caramel was wonderful! Although I was a bit scared to try the Espresso, it was not at all overpowering. In fact, I would rather get a morning jolt from this ice cream than a hot beverage. 🙂
I cannot wait for the shop to open soon, so I can try even more flavors!
