On my last post, I shared my trip to Mitsuwa Marketplace. On this post, I wanted to share a few of the items I bought!
First of all, here are the packaged sweets.
Here is the Yan Yan, which comes with a bunch of sticks and a dipping creme. I’m a fan of strawberry, but the vanilla (which I tried for the first time) was pretty good too. Pocky will still always be my favorite. 🙂
Mochi with five different flavors! Not mochi ice cream like at Trader Joe’s; this is the real deal.
If you peek inside, it looks pretty similar, but one definitely had a strawberry filling and one had chocolate mixed with the red bean. All of them were delicious!
Going back to savory items, I bought some pickled cabbage, which I would really like to learn how to make one day. Also, a bonito flake rice ball and some spicy nori strips to snack on.
Now for the bakery items!
Here are the savory ones first. The curry donut was popular, so I wanted to try it out. Not much to look at, and…
…the inside is not much to look like either. However, I would totally get this again! The inside has a kind of vegetable curry and the outside is just like a perfectly lgiht donut with a slight crunch outside.
This is the Croquette Roll which contains a Vegetable Croquette (the crunchy fish stick-looking item) with Worcestershire sauce and mayo baked into a pastry. It’s a meal that you can eat one-handed!
The item that I think is the prettiest is this Sweet Potato Tart.
I took out a tiny little slice to sample it. Delicious crust with a filling that tasted like almond paste!
This was an addicting Bavarian pastry. Simply delicious!
Next, the Crispy Cream! It is a sweet bread filled with custard cream and cookie dough on top. Really.
I was slightly disappointed with the hard cream inside, but a couple of seconds in the microwave solved that!
Lastly, one of my favorites of the bunch a Red Bean-filled Danish!
It combines a perfect French-style pastry with Japanese red bean paste. The perfect marriage for a pastry. 🙂
Anyways, those are the items I brought back from Mitsuwa from this trip. Next time, I promise it will all be completely different because I cannot wait to try more delicious treat. Yum!
